In 2017 the Ruskin Mill Land Trust, through the Glasshouse Heritage Centre, and Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council created a partnership project ‘Voices of the Cones’ with the aim of collecting, preserving and promoting the stories from people who were, or are, involved in the Stourbridge glass industry.

Over the last two years 100 oral history recordings have been collected covering all aspects of the famous Stourbridge glass industry, including glass cutters, pot makers, people who maintained the furnaces, people who dealt with processing and orders and many more. The oral histories showcase the social and economic impact of the industry which by just looking at an object is not immediately apparent, they enable us to convey the value of individual objects and experiences and bring them to life.

Well known Birmingham-based folk musician Dan Whitehouse has been commissioned to develop a series of songs interpreting this rich history and to bring them to life, while writer and storyteller John Edgar narrates the stories alongside.

This performance combines these songs, stories and images withive music. A very special evening.
