Below is a cynatope by biologist Anna Atkins (1799-1871) who met the astronomer and inventor of camera-less pictures, John Herschel, and was inspired to document her collection of plants and algae.

2pm-4pm Screen Printing (Two-hour Taster Workshop)

Join Karoline in The Makers Studio to design and screen print your own colourful tote bag inspired by sunshine and summer. £18 per person (Inc. VAT), plus free hot drinks. Over 18s. Advance booking essential.

In this workshop you will create a bold design or pattern and then use a scalpel to hand cut a paper stencil of your design. Using your stencil, you will screen print your design onto a tote bag with a silk screen, squeegee and bright coloured fabric ink.

This workshop is suitable for beginners. Bring along some ideas or images to help you get started. Remember to bring a bag or something to take your finished work home in. Aprons will be provided but it is a good idea to wear old clothes as fabric inks can stain.
