Welcome to The Saturday Sessions!

This month our theme is COLOUR; so come and get creative with us during the day; FREE drop-in activities all day for families, and some pre-bookable paid two-hour workshops for adults.

In the evening we are hosting our Sociable Supper - a great way to meet new people over an organic and healthy meal; full of vibrant colours and flavours, with a mix of colour-themed conversation starters, music and chat.

Programme & Prices 

10am-4pm - Great for families

Free family craft activities; this month we are making Colour Catchers and Rainbow Bookmarks. Cafe open for drinks and cake. Just drop-in. Last entry 3.30.

11am-1pm - Craft workshop - for adults - tapestry

As the greyness of winter gives way to a more colourful spring join tapestry artist and maker Tina Francis to learn about stitch and colour. We will be using Appleton wools, the same ones that were used by William Morris, to create a framed piece of resonating stitch work that has colour at its core. 

Suitable for beginners and more experienced stitchers. We will be using a simple Bargello stitch to create our masterpiece. 

What you will receive: 
10 by 15 cm frame in white 
2 John James Needles 
Tapestry canvas 
Appleton wools in many many colours 
Stitch instructions 

You will leave with a piece of stitching framed for the world to see!  £18 per person, with free hot and cold drinks.

About Tina

As Tina Francis Tapestry Tina sells tapestry needlepoint kits at all the major Stitch shows in the UK, she runs workshops from her Jewellery Quarter Studio and teaches across the world. A true believer that “Craft Builds Community”, Tina has used her skills to build stitch groups around Birmingham and has worked on large scale tapestry projects that have involved hundreds of people. The Heritage Lottery funded Stirchley Stitch Project saw over 150 people stitch a tapestry mural 6ft by 4ft, it has made the final of the National Sewing Awards 2019.

4.30pm-6.30pm - Craft workshop - for adults - candle making

Join Beth Wilkinson in The Makers Studio for a candle-making experience; create your own candles from scratch, starting with nature's own beeswax. In this workshop you'll be using different techniques and a range of colours to create dipping and marble jar candles. £18 per person (Inc. VAT), plus free hot drinks. Over 18s.

About Beth

Beth Wilkinson completed a BA hons in Fine Art at Margaret Street, Birmingham in 2001, since then she developed her practical and creative skills to become an experienced tutor in various settings, with a focus on using art towards positive personal Well-being.

Beth has worked part time at Argent College for over three years and during this time has developed a passion for exploring traditional techniques within candle making such as dipping, with an emphasis on environmentally kind materials such as beeswax and other natural waxes.

7pm - Sociable Supper at The Hive

Doors open 6.45pm. Join us to share a relaxed two-course meal with friends and neighbours, this month with a side order of colour-themed fun conversation starters. You will be given the option on booking whether you want to sit at larger shared tables or would prefer to be seated with your own group. Either is absolutely fine with us! This is not a typical restaurant and you are free to move around the space to socialise if you wish!



Chilli non carne and salads (vg), followed by Tarte au Citron (v) or Lemon Drizzle Cake (vg) - bursting with colour as well as flavour!
