The Hive JQ

The Hive is a community hub for Birmingham in an historic building, with an award-winning organic café and bakery, craft workshops, exhibitions and event spaces.

As part of The Hive and Birmingham More In Common's winter anti-loneliness campaign called WE CARE COASTERS, we are looking for children and young people to design and make WE CARE CARDS to give to Care Home residents and to isolated people within our communities. Cards will be given alongside gifts of a handmade drinks coaster and fabric bag made by adult craft volunteers, some treats, and an invitation and resources to write back.

This card-making activity is a great way to explore the concept of loneliness and take direct social action to brighten someone's day with an act of friendliness and kindness.

We would love the cards to include a bit about the card maker, and to include some questions - to start a conversation. We provide downloadable instructions, available below (including what detail not to include for safeguarding), and some suggestions of what to write about.
