COVID-19 UPDATE - 15/10/2020

Due to the latest Government Guidelines and tier restrictions for Birmingham, people are not allowed to meet socially with family and friends indoors in any settings, unless they are from the same household or have formed a support bubble.

In relation to exhibitions and events please only book tickets following these guidelines. Times ticket entry is still in place, and we have limited it to 10 tickets per time slot.

We have postponed restarting on site workshops until 2021, but will hopefully be able to set up workshops people can get involved in remotely within the next month.

November's events are still going ahead at the moment, again tickets are limited to those in the same household / support bubble. We will keep details updated as events change. Any cancellations, attendees will be notified at least 24 hours in advance.

Changes in the Café - Restrictions also cover eating in at the Café. Take out is still available, but only those in the same household or support bubble are allowed to eat in.

The same rule of a maximum of 6 people per table still apply. All other measures listed below are still in place, including wearing a face covering at all times (aside from when eating/drinking) and hand sanitise throughout the duration of your visit.

Stay Safe, from The Hive team.

Measures we have put in place

We have made some important changes to the way we usually operate and have put measures in place to reassure our customers and staff that we are following government guidelines and giving us the best chance of preventing the spread of COVID-19.

We have completed the assessment and have been successful in gaining a COVID-19 Industry Standard.

General - all customers and visitors

  • We ask all our customers and visitors to sanitise their hands on arrival and after using the toilets. We provide sanitising stations around The Hive.
  • We have increased the frequency of cleaning public areas, door handles, touch points and toilets where the virus may spread.
  • We ask all our customers to wear a mask or face covering while they are in our building, UNLESS they have an exemption or are eating and drinking in one of our seating areas. This includes wearing a face covering whilst queuing and ordering food. Our staff will be wearing face coverings too.
  • If you are using our toilets, please note, we operate a one way system  on entry and exit to ensure we maintain social distancing. Bit of a detour, but you will get to see some of our exhibitions spaces on the way!

Changes in the Café include:

  • We offer a take away service and sell fresh bread and other baked goods from our in-house bakery during opening hours. We offer a lunch service between 12 and 2pm - both for take away and eat in.
  • The breakfast menu includes a full vegan breakfast.

Eating in

  • We have fewer tables to ensure social distancing between customers.
  • If you are eating in you will be asked to leave your name and a way to contact you for the purposes of 'track and trace'.
  • The 'rule of six' applies. No more than 6 people may share a table.
  • We have a socially-distant queuing system in place to order food.  Please wear your face covering whilst queuing.
  • We ask you to kindly limit your stay to 1 hour if you are not ordering a main meal at lunchtime.
  • Tables will be sanitised by a member of staff in-between customers. Please make sure we have had time to clean your table before you are seated.
  • We ask all our customers to not queue for service in groups, but ask one person only to order food where possible due to maintaining social distancing.

Take away

  • You are welcome to walk-in for takeaway service throughout the day. We have a socially-distant queuing system in place. Please wear your face covering whilst queuing. We will ask you to wait in our Lounge area while we prepare your order.
  • We ask all our customers to not queue for service in groups, but ask one person only to order food where possible due to maintaining social distancing.

Visiting an exhibition or event. Changes include:

  • We will ask you to wear face coverings during your time in our building.
  • We are operating a pre-bookable timed-ticket entry system for exhibitions and events to limit numbers for social distancing in our spaces. Details about how to book these can be found  in our What's On pages.
  • The Makers Studio will reopen for limited craft activity for small groups only in the Autumn.
  • If you taking part in a workshop or craft activity, you will be given your own 'station' and equipment and craft materials. These will have been sanitised and not touch for over 72 hours. Not having to share means you won't be sharing germs either!

We hope you feel reassured with the measures we have put in place. Please bear with us if our operations are not as smooth running as usual.
