This is a new drive to connect people during lockdown restrictions through craft activity and a social action project to help brighten peoples’ days this winter and help people feel more connected during this difficult time. Can you help? Do you crochet or macramé or willing to learn a new craft skill? We are looking for volunteers who can spare a few hours, handmaking a small number of drinks coasters each. What do I need? Many of you will have your own crochet hook and may be able to spare some wool. But you don’t need to have these to take part! We have prepared starter packs with tools, yarn, written instructions and video tutorials to help you create basic drinks coasters. We can post these to you at home. We will then ask you to send us your completed coasters, or we can arrange collection. We have some basic crochet and macramé coaster designs to follow if this is your first time making them, but for the more experienced, we invite you to create any design of drinks coaster, and in whatever colours you choose. What are you doing with the drinks coasters? We will be including them in gifts packs, along with cards and personalised messages from children from primary schools and young people through Birmingham Scouts and Guides. We would also like to invite you to write a personalised gift tag to go with your creations. We’ll be adding a few ‘coffee morning’ themed treats in the packs too. Interested in joining the volunteer craft team? As this is a home-based volunteering project you are welcome to take part wherever you live. We do ask that you are aged 18+ in line with our volunteering policy. Recipients of the gift packs will live in Birmingham. Please contact [email protected] to express interest.
