The Hive JQ Hive JQ Home Visit Us Eat Well Be Creative Take Part Events Support Us Access Information We are located at 43-47 Vittoria Street on the junction of Vittoria Street and Regent Place. The Visit Us page has detailed information about finding us and parking. In this page we provide details to help you plan your visit. The Approach The pavements within the Industrial Middle are mainly blue brick, but there are rough areas and some gentle slopes in places. The best approach to The Hive is from the Golden Square (Warstone Lane) along Vittoria Street. Please be aware that Regent Place has metal posts mid-pavement which means wheelchairs users may not be able to use the pavements at places along the road. On the approach to The Hive, there is a drop curb at Regent Place. The Entrance Access to the main entrance of The Hive is on the Vittoria Street side of the building. There is street level entry into the building through the brown door. There is a platform lift immediately once you are through the door which takes you to the ground floor. There is level access throughout the ground floor of the building. If you are visiting the building for a full building tour, there is an alternative lift to all floors. Toilets There are two unisex toilets on the ground floor, accessed through a door in the cafe, adjacent to the Heritage Room. The toilet on the right includes a Baby Change facility. The accessible toilet on the left includes a toilet support rail and a Lift Hanger (375kg/825 lbs). We are proud to offer an inclusive and friendly environment to all our visitors. Everyone is welcome to enjoy our beautiful industrial building and discover the stories of its past. Heritage interpretation We are working hard to make our heritage as accessible as possible. Please ask for large print versions of heritage display text. We also have some printed text on different colour backgrounds. We also have our main text panels available as British Sign Language interpreted films - these also contain text captions and audio. Please ask if you would like to watch these. Watch the short trailer below! YouTube Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZFerBUgXwI Craft activity In the Heritage Room and Makers’ Studio (craft workshop) we have higher tables for the comfort of wheelchair users. Prices There is no admission charge for entry into the Heritage (interpretation) Room. Access to all exhibitions is free of charge. There are craft materials available, so if you are feeling creative – help yourself! There no charge to use these materials, but we welcome donations on a ‘pay as you feel’ basis. Lighting The Hive enjoys lots of natural light thanks to its large windows. There are a range of different pendant, wall and spot lights throughout the ground floor as well. Noise The Hive Café & Bakery and heritage spaces are usually quiet spaces; there is no music playing. We do have some noise reducing ear defenders available in the ‘heritage snug’ area. Please do borrow these if you wish. The 'snug' in the heritage room is a small carpeted area which provides a comfortable chill out area; there are toys in the cupboard, books to look at, and a case of dressing up clothes to explore textures. Please do ask if you, or someone you are with, would benefit from a different quiet space to relax in during your visit. Being yourself We would like you, our visitors, to feel that you can be completely yourself in our building and at the same time hope that all visitors accept others for being themselves. Our on-site college supports young people with learning differences and complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder; it is important that our public facing areas provide the same inclusive welcome and a positive experience for all. Our Hive heritage staff and volunteers receive Equality & Diversity, Disability, Deaf, Autism and Dementia Awareness Training. If you require any further information about access, please email [email protected] or call/text us on 07805 304294.
